Here are some of the books I found particularly good for Paper III of Gamsat. Below each description I have attached a link to Amazon.co.uk which shows the current price of the book and which you can use to go directly to their site and buy it if you want. Buying from Amazon is usually cheaper than buying from the shops and they also have cheap international delivery rates for Australian students.
An excellent series of books are the AS and A2 in a Week series published by Letts which are based on intensive one week courses taught at some of the UK’s most successful tutorial colleges.
The AS books are obviously the first half of an A level and the A2 books the second half.
These are small books and as the title implies if worked through as suggested you could revise the entire syllabus (for AS or A2) in a week. In fact you could easily revise all three subjects in a week as the suggested amount of material given is not that great.
These books are excellent both as a rapid introduction to the subjects at the beginning of your studies and as revision towards the end. Each chapter consists of a short test to assess your current knowledge, a review of the fundamentals for each topic (but not so abbreviated you cannot learn without referring to another book) and then final question practice to test your learning. At the end of the book are further A level style exam practice questions. All the books are exceptionally clearly and colourfully presented.
The "In A Week" Series
Although the "In a Week" series are good you will also need a more detailed textbook for more in depth knowledge. Again an excellent series of books also published by Letts is the Revise AS & A2 series. These are much larger books than the "..in a Week" series and although they are produced as revision books for A level students they are actually written in sufficient detail for you to use them as textbooks for the entire syllabus. They also contain plenty of exam practice questions.
I found this to be a great introduction to one of the hardest topics in chemistry and one of the most important topics for Paper III in GAMSAT. It's straightforward and almost makes this subject fun! (I emphasize "almost".) It goes up to first year university level and contains worked out problems to help you understand the basics. Definitely worth the money.
My experience, as someone without a science background, was that by following the course of studies laid out in these books I was able to achieve a sufficient level for GAMSAT in a relatively short period of time. The key, is to choose a syllabus of the relevant topics as set out in the Griffiths GAMSAT Review and make sure you are capable of doing all the practice questions for those topics which are in the above books after you have worked through each chapter.
